Common Questions About Stone

Find answers to frequently asked questions about natural stone, materials, and how CRS can help with your project

What materials does CRS Marble & Granite carry?

CRS carries a wide selection of premium stone and surface materials, including granite, marble, quartzite, quartz, porcelain, and soapstone. Inventory varies by location and availability, so customers are encouraged to view current inventory or visit a showroom.

What is granite?

Granite is a natural stone known for its durability, strength, and wide range of colors and patterns. It is commonly used for kitchen countertops, vanities, and other interior surfaces because it offers both visual character and strong performance under normal use.

What is marble?

Marble is a natural stone valued for its classic beauty, soft movement, and elegant appearance. It is often used for bathroom vanities, fireplaces, feature areas, and other spaces where a refined natural surface is desired.

What is quartzite?

Quartzite is a natural stone formed from quartz-rich sandstone under heat and pressure. It is known for its hardness, durability, and striking natural movement. Many quartzites offer dramatic veining and color variation, making them popular for statement surfaces.

What is quartz?

Quartz is an engineered surface made with natural quartz and other materials. It offers a more consistent appearance than many natural stones and is often chosen for its durability, design flexibility, and ease of maintenance.

What is porcelain?

Porcelain is a manufactured surface material known for its sleek appearance, durability, and versatility. It is often used in modern residential and commercial design applications.

What is soapstone?

Soapstone is a natural stone with a smooth feel and a softer, organic appearance. It is often selected for projects where a timeless, understated surface is desired.

Will my sample match my actual slab?

Not exactly. Natural stone varies from slab to slab, and each lot may have differences in color, veining, movement, and pattern. CRS recommends viewing the actual slab whenever possible before making a final selection. Natural stone movement and veining can vary from lot to lot.

Why should I visit a showroom?

A showroom visit allows you to see full slabs in person. This is especially important with natural stone because the movement, scale, color, and veining may look different on a full slab than on a small sample or screen image.

Does CRS fabricate or install countertops?

No. CRS Marble & Granite is a stone and surface material distributor. CRS does not cut or install stone. Fabrication, installation, seams, supports, sealing, and final countertop pricing should be discussed with your fabricator.

Can CRS help me choose a stone?

Yes. CRS can help you review materials, compare options, and narrow your selection based on your project, design preferences, and intended use. Once you choose your material, your fabricator, builder, designer, or contractor can guide the next steps for fabrication and installation.

Can homeowners visit CRS directly?

Yes. Homeowners are welcome to visit CRS showrooms to view slabs and select materials. If you are already working with a fabricator, designer, builder, or contractor, it is helpful to bring their information with you.

Should I bring anything to my showroom visit?

Helpful items include measurements, photos of the project space, cabinet samples, tile samples, flooring samples, paint colors, design inspiration, and the name of your fabricator or project professional if you have one.

What questions should I ask my fabricator?

You should ask your fabricator about seams, edge profiles, sink cutouts, support requirements, sealing, installation timing, final pricing, and care instructions. Questions about seams, supports, sealing, cleaning, refinishing, and final material pricing should be directed to your fabricator.

Where does natural stone come from?

Natural stone is quarried from locations around the world. Natural stone may come from countries including Brazil, India, Italy, Spain, China, and France.
